1. Derry: a free town dog park with agility equipment

Derry earns first place because it does the hard part well. The Derry Dog Park on Fordway is a town-run, fenced, off-leash area with a separate small-dog section, agility equipment, tunnels and summer wading pools, run by the town's animal control department rather than a membership club. Around it, Derry has the widest spread of housing types on this list: in-town capes and ranches on quarter-acre lots you can fence for a few thousand dollars, and East Derry acreage for dogs that need room to run. The market is the most forgiving in the group, too. Merrimack's dog park sits inside Wasserman Park on Naticook Lake, fenced and split into large-dog and small-dog sections with a seasonal water spigot, and the town's Horse Hill Nature Preserve adds miles of wooded, leashed trail a short drive away. Merrimack's subdivisions were largely built in the 1970s through 1990s on half-acre to acre lots, which is the sweet spot for a fenced yard without a tractor. Sanel Dog Park at Terrill Park, on the Merrimack River off Manchester Street, is fully fenced, open dawn to dusk and requires proof of a current license and vaccinations, which most owners see as a feature. The city also has an unusually large network of conserved trails for a state capital. Concord is the value pick: the year-to-date median was $497,000 through August 2026 (up 4.6%, NHAR), with 35 homes for sale, 1.4 months of supply and 20 NHAR days on market year-to-date. 4. Hooksett: a double-gated dog park minutes from Manchester

Hooksett's town dog park has a double-fenced entrance, separate small- and large-dog areas, agility equipment and shade structures, and it sits ten minutes from downtown Manchester. Hooksett's housing is a mix of older village homes and newer subdivisions on larger lots along the Bear Brook side of town. The year-to-date median was $630,000 through August 2026 (up 0.8%, NHAR). 5. Bedford: 338 acres of leashed trail at Pulpit Rock

Bedford does not have the biggest off-leash scene, but it has the best everyday walk. Pulpit Rock Conservation Area is 338 acres with more than three miles of marked trail through a gorge and along waterfalls, and leashed dogs are welcome. Bedford's zoning also means most single-family lots are an acre or more, so fenced runs and invisible-fence layouts are common. It is the priciest town here: the year-to-date median was $860,000 through August 2026 (up 4.9%, NHAR; the single-month August figure was a 15-sale outlier and should not be read as the market). Londonderry's Musquash Conservation Area is the kind of place dog owners drive to from other towns: a large tract of wooded trails, streams and mud that a Lab considers heaven. The town does not run its own off-leash park, but Benson Park's fenced dog area in neighboring Hudson is a short drive. Lots in Londonderry's 1980s-to-2000s neighborhoods run an acre or more. 7. Manchester: the most dog-friendly downtown in the state

If you want your dog with you at dinner, Manchester wins. Stark Brewing Company welcomes dogs inside at the bar and has a dog menu; Great North Aleworks, To Share Brewing and Backyard Brewery all seat dogs on their patios. Daily walks happen on the leashed Piscataquog Trail along the river, and Lake Massabesic's trail system allows leashed dogs, though no swimming for dogs or people because it is the city's drinking-water supply, and the Audubon sanctuary there does not allow dogs. The city's dog park is private and member-only, which costs Manchester points.
